Noise Intercepted Collaborators

Sam Kidel - Composer

Bristol, UK

Why do I want to participate?

I'm interested in the collaborative aspect of this art project. Artists have a tendency to be individualistic and I find it exciting to work outside of that self-oriented viewpoint. I'm a composer and part-time receptionist living in Bristol, having recently completed a BA in Anthropology. You can hear some of my composed sounds here:

Ebb, Flow, SlorpNoise Challenge #1: The Pulse

The waters of Avon Gorge once pulsed through the heart of Bristol.

In the early nineteenth century, to better aid the commercial ships that rode its flow and ebb in and out of the port, a tidal bypass was fashioned, channelling the daily pulse of water away from the heart of the city.

The gorge, unperturbed by our blockage of its tides from the city, continues to pulse.

Its only sound comes from the occasional gastric bubbling of mud-trapped air, spluttering heavily from the river’s surface.
